12 year old Shenice is the captain the Fulton Firebrids. A fully black girls softball team. She and her teammates are trying to make history by being the first fully black softball team in their league to win a state championship. During their journey to the championship some family matters come up. Shenice learns that her great grandfather JonJon was framed. The fact that he was framed ended his baseball career. Sh learns this information from her Uncle Jack – JonJon’s brother. Through out the firebirds journey to the championship Shenice tries to prove that her great grandfather was innocent. Only at the last moments of Uncle Jack’s life does she get all the clues she needs to prove that JonJon was framed. But, can she get the the state championship as well? Find out by reading Fast Pitch

Fast Pitch is a very good book. It is realistic fiction and could probably actually happen in real life. It represents the struggles of an all black team and highlights the friendships that can be made through team sports. Personally, I would consider this as a mystery, action, realistic fiction book. Because I was very excited to read it from the beginning. I think this is a good read from ages 7 and up as long as you know softball. Happy reading!
