Artemis Fowl II is supposedly a criminal mastermind. Artemis Fowl II is a 12 year old boy.
Artemis was born and raised in Fowl Manor near Dublin, Ireland. Artemis’s father was a collector and had mysteriously died when he was collecting something. This made Artemis’s mother Angelina sad and depressed. In an attempt to save the family fortune, Artemis along with his bodyguard Butler (Yes, the last name of the bodyguard was butler, in fact the fowls and the butlers have been working together for centuries) set out in search of fairies. Yes, in search of fairies!! Artemis had learned that the fairies that lived at the planet’s core held bars and bars of 24 carat gold. He told himself that even 1 ton of that stuff could revive their family’s fortune. So Artemis searched and searched and he eventually found a fairy that was strapped to the earth. I should mention that though Artemis was not very athletic. He made up for that in the field of electronics. Artemis could decode anything, hack into anything using a computer. And he put those skills to work when he received the sacred fairy book from the fairy which was tethered to earth. Artemis found out about a ritual that the fairies did to revive their powers. So, he decided to take advantage that ritual. The ritual could only happen (From what he could tell) on a full moon in some certain places. So, Artemis kept an eye on all of those places until one night, a fairy named Captain Holly Short came. Artemis captured Holly and effectively telling the fairies to come and get him. The fairies needed to stay hidden from the humans, and the fact that one of their own was captured agitated them. So the fairies struck Fowl Manor. To find out if the attack was effective or not, and what will happen to Captain Holly Short read The first Artemis Fowl Book!
I loved this book because it was hard to distinguish between the good and bad characters. Everyone seemed to be doing the right thing according to their situations. The setting of the story is along the coast of Ireland and it made think it was some really pretty place. I loved the way they created a world (lots of tech and science fiction) in which one person was trying to outsmart the other and both Artemis and their fairies seemed extremely smart. The book was really funny too.
